The Traditions of Through the Door Recovery
Principles that help protect the fellowship, the meeting, and each person who walks through the door.
Our Traditions
1. Recovery and healing come first.
Our common purpose is to support recovery, integration, connection, and meaningful change.
2. We do not define another person’s recovery.
Each person’s path is their own. We share our experience rather than prescribing someone else’s.
3. There is no requirement to use psychedelic medicine.
Through the Door Recovery does not promote, provide, sell, source, or recommend any particular substance or treatment.
4. We honor what has helped people survive.
We respect traditional recovery fellowships, therapy, medicine, spirituality, trauma work, and other legitimate paths to healing.
5. What is shared here stays here.
We protect anonymity, privacy, and the trust of the room.
6. We speak from personal experience.
We avoid diagnosing, fixing, directing, or giving medical advice. We listen with curiosity and without judgment.
7. Safety is more important than ideology.
Psychedelic and plant medicines carry real risks and are not appropriate for everyone. Peer support does not replace qualified medical or mental-health care.
8. No one profits from another member’s vulnerability.
Meetings are not a place for solicitation, selling, recruiting, treatment brokering, or sourcing substances.
9. Leadership is service.
Facilitators are trusted servants whose role is to protect the space, not control it.
10. We focus on integration, not the experience alone.
Insight matters. What we do with it matters more.
11. We remain open-minded without becoming careless.
We can be curious about new approaches while staying grounded in accountability, humility, and safety.
12. The fellowship grows through attraction, not promotion.
We let the way we live, recover, connect, and change speak for itself.
We still have to walk through it.
