Why Through the Door exists

I knew recovery. But I didn’t know how to talk about what happened next.

I spent years around addiction treatment and recovery. Traditional recovery gave me a tremendous amount, but eventually I realized that being sober and being healed weren’t necessarily the same thing.

There were things underneath addiction—trauma, shame, fear, and the belief that I wasn’t good enough—that I had spent years trying to understand.

That search eventually led me to psychedelic-assisted healing and ibogaine. The experience affected me profoundly, but something else became obvious almost immediately afterward: Where was everyone supposed to go next?

Traditional recovery communities didn’t always understand the psychedelic experience. Psychedelic communities didn’t always understand addiction and long-term recovery.

There needed to be somewhere in between. So we created it.

Through the Door Recovery is not a rejection of traditional recovery. It is not an endorsement of any particular medicine. It is not another treatment center.

It is a community built around a question: Now that the door has opened, how are we going to walk through it?
